An article I wrote for the Rupert’s Land News was just published: You can find it here.
Here’s how the editor of the publication describes the issue and my article: This December, as we celebrate a more solitary Advent season, we’re making a case for rest. Rachel Twigg Boyce kicks off the issue with an expression of her love for Advent, in all its countercultural splendor, and ultimately makes a plea for peace and compassion over obsessive productivity.
Indeed, can’t we all just stop? Can we learn to be kinder to ourselves and each other? I hope you enjoy the article and a truly restful Advent.
I like your view of advent/Christmas. More relaxed, reflective, and (perhaps I’m misusing the word) somber
My family is very much 100% about the commercial aspect. For every year since, well, before I was born we would have Christmas family supper (30+ people)
We’d eat, sing and…sit on Santa’s lap & open presents
Which gets increasingly awkward the older I get 0_0 Granted, I’m the oldest person in my family who doesn’t have/want children
I’ve been wanting to make my own Christmas tradition & I’m very relieved that this year there is no pressure to meet up with family.
This advent I’m going to reflect on your article. Cheers!
Making your own traditions – ones that work for you and don’t create added pressure – is such a wonderful thing to do. Have fun experimenting!
